• Artist Statement

  I want people to notice that the face has a lack of facial features: no ear on one side and no eyeball on the other side. The reason its cheeks are deep is because it’s meant to look hollow and the pale glaze skin color with black cracks is supposed to add a creepy ceramic doll look to it. I was inspired to make something creepy because it was Halloween time, and it was fun to try and make a face with exaggerated and uncanny facial features. I painted clown makeup on it because clowns are creepy to me. I made the vase using the coil pot method, and when it was time to add facial features I slipped and scored the carved out features to where I wanted them on the face.
