  • Bam! The man’s skull smashes against the pavement, driven by the officer’s fist. My camera is just inches away as I rapidly press the shutter button, attempting to capture as many images as possible. I watch as people walk by, unfazed; this is not an uncommon sight in Downtown San Francisco. Throughout my life, I have lost multiple people to addiction, and yet—even though drug use is a huge epidemic in the Bay Area—I rarely hear it talked about. For this reason, I use my camera to capture issues in my local communities and highlight what is usually ignored. This particular photo shows a man resisting arrest as multiple officers surround him. It was taken with a film camera and developed in my school’s darkroom.

  • A person’s creativity reflects how they see the world. It is an expression of their own uniqueness. My creativity reflects how I interpret situations. It is a reflection of everyone and everything that has influenced me throughout my life.
