Rap 10: Whirling Ruba’iyat

This is a poem written in the traditional Persian Ruba’i form. There’s a lot of obvious Sufi and Bhakti influence, but it comes from a place of pure, non-denominational love and mysticism. I usually write in free form so I decided to challenge myself by writing Ruba’iyat, and it was pretty fun! It was written on log on a hill under lots of sunlight, with an anthology of Urdu ghazals nearby.

Creativity is outtasight. It’s the internal and external meeting and figuring each other out. For myself at least, it’s a desire to acknowledge the beauty of the world and contribute to it. Whether to only yourself or others, it’s a way of giving and thanking.
