My painting is a memoir of the beautiful memories I shared with my family and grandparents the day I visited Point Reyes National Seashore. As I painted the ledge and trail to the lighthouse, I was reminded of the trek we had made together as we hiked up to the lighthouse’s viewing point. And as I blotted out patches of grass along the hillside, I recalled the small coyote we had seen jumping atop the mountain, hunting its unseen prey. And as I painted the ocean, I recalled the arduous but ultimately fruitful hike we had made to a small beach, filled with nothing but powdery soft sand and the endless sounds of crashing and pulling of the ocean. My painting showcases more than just a lighthouse, it is a reminder of the people in my life and the memories I shared with them.

To me, creativity is the ability to express yourself through a medium while having fun. Art for me can have a deeper meaning, but more than anything it should be entertaining to create; I shouldn’t feel burnt out or tired when making it.
