This piece encompasses my love for the ocean, translating the feeling of getting lost in thought while watching a beautiful sunset over glistening waters. Swimming in the cool ocean and gazing across the surface, I feel a deep connection with nature, as though I am one with the water. To create this piece, I chose oil pastel, a new medium for me, to communicate the calming atmosphere I feel when I gaze across the intricate waves. My hair blending into the water symbolizes my bond with the ocean, an element of the Bay Area that has shaped my sense of self and peace. The warmth of the sunset contrasts with the cold waters, reflecting the resilience within me of how, even in moments of solitude, warmth and clarity persist in this tranquil ambiance.

To me, creativity is seen in how people communicate their unique thoughts and experiences through their own visual expression. Creativity is distinctive for every individual because of their specific personal perspectives of what they observe and experience, which is why perceiving others’ creativity brings an extraordinary sense of wonder.
