Night Bus(es)

Deepak I.

  • Living in visually stunning San Francisco, there are innumerable pictures of its overall beauty. I choose to focus on the beauty in mundane things. Downtown San Francisco highlights the change following the pandemic vividly: largely taken over by cars, with few humans in sight. With the vehicles taking center stage in the framing, I try to capture the tension of human interactions using cars and buses. This is a photo of a parking lot with two buses going in opposite directions at night. I take multiple shots to get the perfect framing to convey what I want. In this shot, the buses lined up perfectly so it appears that there is only one at first glance. I zoomed in to enhance the blurriness of the empty moving buses with a still tree in the foreground providing contrast. I increased the blue elements to increase the haziness from the fog.

  • Creativity means using my unique perspective as a child who has overcome learning differences to question the status quo, amplify the voices of people who are marginalized, dig deep into their experiences, and share their distinctive stories.
