Moving Up

My brother asked me how he should prepare for high school despite being years away from even thinking about it. His question brought me back to being his age, anxiously waiting to grow up. Now being a senior, I wish I hadn’t been so worried when I was younger. I wanted to make a film that captured the fear of growing up and transition to maturity in a whimsical way. With overlays and doodles, I wanted the film to feel silly, like discovering the monster under your bed is just a shoe. My process was detail-oriented, starting with multiple storyboard drafts and mock shots to align my vision with real-world camera setups. Every layer was rather codependent, so I focused on stringing footage together first, adding drawings and animation afterwards, and finally sound.
