Magnificent Mermaid Mug

This mug represents my love of the ocean and all things aquatic, as well as the pull that I feel towards the stories and artwork about mermaids. While creating this piece, I came up with a smudging technique that I used for the scales. This technique took a very long time, but I was excited for the final product. I also enjoy experiementing with glazes, so it was very interesting to see how the glazes reacted with the texture of this piece.

To me, creativity means being able to outwardly express the ideas and inspirations that one pictures in their mind. I often experience a distinct image in my mind’s eye of what I want to create. Through time and practice, I’ve learned how to make those ideas become reality.
