Light Show

Sarah C.

Charcoal

  • This piece attempts to explore light and portraiture together, showing the planes of the face using the movement of the light. The charcoal was used to create texture and roughness, creating a sharp effect that enhances the light and its interaction with the skin.

  • Creativity means the power to imagine outside of the box and expand beyond your limitations. In charcoal, this means using the charcoal in alternative ways, such as changing the way you smudge, mark, and tone the paper. All of these strategies can be used to depict images in unique ways.
