Knightfall

Pranav N.

  • VOLUME UP! Composing music is a way to channel my curiosity (and my free time) into a tangible product. ”Knightfall” began 5 years ago, with simply the ideas of a waltz-like introduction, a three-section melody, and the key of ”dorian” (as opposed to major or minor), occasionally adding elements of ”melodic minor”. Only a few months ago, I revisited Knightfall to include the beautiful & slow section that spotlights the cello and bass, centered around a nostalgic two-chord sequence which occasionally takes in a third chord. Taking some inspiration from my past works, I experimented with the transitions between sections, trying out new things. All along, I aimed to do two things: make it unique, while also playable for high school. Excited to have my high school orchestra play it in the spring!

  • Making your own way, being curious, and actively searching for patterns is creativity. In music composition, this can be seen both in writing within a genre and in making a new genre. Some ideas don’t flush out, but I keep trying until I find something that thrives.
