Journalistic Integrity

Zoe W.

Cardboard, acrylic paint, photography, digital design and drawing

  • I am very interested in the concept of turning small everyday objects into large comparative pieces. For this piece I was heavily inspired by my fascination in journalism. Particularly, I was interested in the use of journalism in terms of their rules and conducts when breaking stories, their moral code of ethics. For this piece I started by creating two very large tape recorders out of cardboard and acrylic paint. Once I had carved, sketched, and painted those I asked my friend to hold them and allow me to take pictures. I then took the final image and added a photograph of myself next to the original subject. I then added text and details to finish the piece digitally. Next, I adjusted the colors of the piece as a whole many times until I was happy. My process involves many variations to have a finished artwork I am proud of.

  • To me creativity means having the opportunity to explore the multifaceted elements of myself and the world around me. Being creative is to be innovative and create meaningful aspects of everyday life. Creativity allows me to help myself and community, designing an overall better future, culture, and climate.
