Isolation

  • Solitude, often accompanied by loneliness, can feel as if the walls are closing down around you. I tried to capture my feelings of isolation and anxiety when Iā€™m alone, with the walls closing in to form an eye, while also portraying my experience with the serenity and peacefulness that solitude brings me. I began by creating watercolor buildings that had been twisted out of shape and cutting out the center to form the shape of the eye. Then, I layered it on top of a black background and a girl sitting on the moon, reaching out to a star. However, the girls face has been scratched out, making us unable to see her true emotions and highlighting the conflict between feelings of loneliness and peacefulness when by herself.

  • Creativity allows me to express vulnerable aspects of myself that I might not be comfortable sharing elsewhere. It express itself in many forms, such as sketches & paintings. It comes to me freely and at any moment, whether I am driving, doodling in class, or having conversations with my friends.
