Solitude, often accompanied by loneliness, can feel as if the walls are closing down around you. I tried to capture my feelings of isolation and anxiety when I’m alone, with the walls closing in to form an eye, while also portraying my experience with the serenity and peacefulness that solitude brings me. I began by creating watercolor buildings that had been twisted out of shape and cutting out the center to form the shape of the eye. Then, I layered it on top of a black background and a girl sitting on the moon, reaching out to a star. However, the girls face has been scratched out, making us unable to see her true emotions and highlighting the conflict between feelings of loneliness and peacefulness when by herself.

Creativity allows me to express vulnerable aspects of myself that I might not be comfortable sharing elsewhere. It express itself in many forms, such as sketches & paintings. It comes to me freely and at any moment, whether I am driving, doodling in class, or having conversations with my friends.
