heart to serve.

John L.

Acrylic Painting, Colored Pencils

  • With this piece, I wanted to challenge myself with my artistic capabilities. I’m comfortable with colored pencils, but I’ve always been afraid of acrylic paint. I researched many techniques for painting, the best techniques, etc. The idea I thought up for it was synthesized while reading my school’s prayer. The ending statement “the heart to serve” struck out to me, giving me the idea of a literal heart being offered. The eyes symbolize the many eyes that may see you while serving. I want to be an example of service, so that’s why I chose to paint this very visage.

  • Creativity, to me, is the ability to think freely and bring your ideas to life.
