Harlequin and Pierrot

Mimi M.

Charcoal, gouache

  • I used a gouache wash under charcoal to express two self-portraits of distinct strong emotions. To create the fantastical composition, I used photo references of myself. By depicting two polarizing emotions, I wanted to contemplate what it means to be a whole self while experiencing conflicting emotions and identity. Will I let my polar emotions tear me in two, or will I accept my whole, conflicting self?

  • Creativity is blending life, academics, experience, and art around you organically into an original idea that drives the creation of work. Creativity drives my pursuit of academics and art and allows me to solve problems and create original work I am proud of.
