Flames Falling

Jacob N.

  • Each February in Yosemite National Park, the setting sun strikes Horsetail falls at an angle which makes the sheets of water appear ablaze. This piece showcases the full, almost magma-like wonder visible for only a few minutes. To capture this shot I had to revisit the site three times because, during the first two nights, the sky was clouded over and the sunset couldn’t break through. The reason I chose this image specifically out of the hundred or so I took is that, though it’s barely visible, one of the National Park Services’ planes can be seen making a low pass in the upper right corner, symbolizing humanity’s creeping presence in all aspects of nature.

  • To me, creativity is a source of inspiration that shows through mainly in my artistic processes, but also most other aspects of my life. My creativity is the ability to come up with and expand on new ideas, which could range from photoshoots, to problem solving, to mental imagery.
