final letter during end-stage disease / conversation after abandonment

My first piece, “final letter during end-stage disease”, is a poem in the second-person. It captures the narrator’s acceptance of their mortality through a letter addressed to their grandmother – the only person that provides them comfort during this time. This piece helped me process the loss of someone close to me this year. Writing about death in this way felt like a bridge between personal grief and universal truth, especially because it gave the narrator both agency and autonomy in an otherwise powerless situation. My second piece, “conversation after abandonment”, focuses on similar themes of isolation and the courage to ask for help. Through this collection, I hope that readers will be reminded that human connection can transcend time and mortality; although both poems are specific in their stories, I want readers to see themselves reflected in the narrators’ vulnerability and resilience.

For me, creativity is about turning personal experiences into stories that others can relate to, and about turning your own narrative into something that’s meaningful, imaginative, and widely universal.
