My artwork is a self-portrait exploring the theme of restraint, shaped by my childhood as an introvert in a family and culture where children were expected to be neither seen nor heard. Growing up in solitude, I learned to withhold parts of myself, retreating into a fantasy realm to navigate a world where my voice often went unheard. This theme of silence informs my art, reflecting on the complexities of communication and identity. Drawing from my Chinese cultural heritage, my work incorporates iconic creatures like the kirin, dragon, and phoenix, along with plants such as the lotus, white lily, and peony. These symbols—representing peace, health, renewal, resilience, and unity—invite viewers to engage with my journey of solitude, growth, and self-discovery. Influenced by traditional Chinese aesthetics, I use flowing lines, clouds, and floral motifs to evoke fluidity and harmony.
