Escape

  • I took these photos on a walk through North Beach with one of my friends from middle school. We hadn’t seen each other for a couple years but had recently reconnected and he told me about a photography class he was taking. I thought a walk through the city would be a fun way to catch up, and share my love and knowledge of photography with him. As we got off of the New China Town MUNI stop, I started to notice how unique the fire escapes were and decided to create a series of photographs. When I take photos I don’t usually go with an idea in mind, I like to let the setting dictate my photos, whether I focus my photos on architecture or people or animals; I feel like I can always find something to capture. The photos in the diptych were my favorites from the series.

  • Creativity is a way of sharing and capturing perspective. Every art form has the ability to show how the artist sees the world. Photography gives me a way to capture what I notice, and freeze expressions or lighting that may have only lasted for a moment in the real world.
