Ego

What do you mean when you say “I”? Is it your entire body you refer to? Only the brain? There are subconscious urges and there are conscious thoughts, but which are you? Are you all of it? Maybe you’re the consciousness, “I think therefore I am”, after all. But is it you who thinks? Isn’t it thoughts that come to your consciousness for observation rather than consciousness being the source of thought? Is that all we are capable of–observation? Observation, of the sum of years of life, billions of neurons, and a limitless number of experiences. Nature and nurture–we choose neither. “Ego” does not choose any more than a leaf blown in the wind. As much as we would want to believe it, “ego” is not in control. “Ego” is in the eye of the storm, incapable of doing anything but observing the terrifying, beautiful mess that surrounds it.

I’m made to make. I need an outlet for it all. Creation is a means to an end for me, that end being the creation of this ultimate form of myself–all the ways in which I see the world–into something tangible.
