Drifting Jellyfish

Kyrie D.

Watercolor, acrylic paint and gel pens

  • I was inspired by jellyfish light fixtures on Pinterest, I wanted it to be about my struggles with mental health; how it feels like you are constantly treading water trying to stay afloat, drifting with the water’s currents, and not really knowing what’s going to happen or what’s going to happen next, just existing in the present, serene, calm and numb. I used watercolor for almost all of it, the ocean has purple and green undertones so it didn’t look flat. I added seaweed because the art looked too purply to me and I wanted to include more green to balance out the purple. For the highlights, I used acrylic pain because I really wanted them to pop and give the effect of shimmering in the sunlight, tying into the theme of living in the moment and just going with the flow.

  • Creativity is the ability to see beyond the ordinary, transforming ideas into something unique and meaningful. It’s about looking at the world through different lenses and seeing something that belongs only to you. It means the willingness to embrace failure and the courage to take risks to share your story.
