Chrysoplae

Arnav J.

  • Chrysopylae captures the iconic view of the Golden Gate Bridge, illuminated by the headlights of cars, embodying the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area during the nighttime. The title, Greek for ”Golden Gate”, draws its inspiration from a US military captain by the name John C. Fremont, who proclaimed the strait between the Bay and Pacific ”Chrysopylae”. I aimed to capture the vibrance of the bridge, along with utilizing a long shutter speed to create a motion blur for the car lights, in order to produce an image that conveys so deeply the energy and glow that the bay area emanates. Further, the cloudiness of the sky adds an undertone of ambiguity, mysteriousness, and depth, elements that could be absent in a normal nighttime photo. All in all, the piece evokes the fiery spirit within us, or in other words, the ”Chrysopylae” that burns in the Bay Area.

  • Creativity is how one evokes their emotion, personality, and aspects of their identity in a piece of expression. It’s a medium through which people generate ideas in their brain, and hopefully pursue.
