American Dream

Lexi Z.

Watercolor

  • American Dream reflects my experience as a Chinese immigrant. The American flag, the focal point of the piece, symbolizes the opportunities and ideals that drew my family here more than a decade ago. Yet, the scene is layered: stone walls, aged architecture, and fallen leaves suggest both beauty and imperfection—much like the immigrant journey itself. This watercolor is not just a celebration of my newfound home in America but also a reflection of the complex journey of assimilation that shapes my identity. The flag, anchored yet rippling, speaks to how I stand firm in my roots while embracing a new future. American Dream is both deeply personal and universally resonant—my interpretation of hope, culture, and identity interwoven into one shared experience.

  • To me, creativity is a means of capturing and/or evoking emotions through artistic expression. It’s a tool that allows me to find joy in the smallest moments, sparking new ways of seeing and understanding the world around me.
