Ascension
I have always been into film but have never ventured into photography until this year. Once my boyfriend took me out to shoot some street photography, I fell in love. Now photography, like film, has become one of my passions. All of my photography has been shot local to me (i.e. Petaluma, San Rafael, and Novato). I focus mostly on line, shadow, color, and light and I'm extremely inspired by my boyfriend and fellow photography friends.
Sun Gaze
The title of this photo is Sun Gaze. My goal when taking this photo was to capture the glow and beauty of the sun, the rays of sunlight coming down over the river. This photo also gives relaxing energy with the scenery all around it, hoping to calm the viewer. I took this photo in Reno, NV, when I last visited. My goal was to try and get centered with the river and the sun capturing the scenery.
Dogs Going to the Park
The following picture demonstrates the bond of how far humanity and nature have come. This picture shows my dogs Coco, Rocky, and Eevee enjoying life getting ready to go to the park and how full of life they are, because even though they depend on us, We depend on them because no matter how tough the day was, our furry companies are always there to be by your side.I chose this picture because i love my dogs and they bring so much love and joy in me and my families life
Fountain of Reflection
This photo was taken my 5th time using a film camera. I took this photo during school at a water fountain. Our assignment for this photo was to take a photo that uses reflection, texture, or shadow in our photo. I thought this water fountain that was full of water would be a great example. I think this photo shows all of these things in it. The pattern of the grate on the water fountain shows texture well and the reflection of the water makes the detail in the photo better. After I took these photos I used an enlarged and a contrast filter to make the photo as good as possible and then I developed the photo. It took me many attempts to get this photo but I am very happy about how It turned out. I think that this is one of the best photos I have taken and I hope you like it. -Nikhil
On the Coast
I wanted to capture the memories my friends and I made on our trip up to Sea Ranch for the weekend. Although I was unable to capture every moment, I was able to capture the beauty of the environment.
Marin's Sunset
This photo was created for a school project that required my class to take pictures of things that represent our community. I specifically chose this place because it was out in a hiking area, and I believe had the best view of an iconic hill in the background that called out to me. I loved how it focused on the tree and its detail but also showed the sunset's beauty shinning on the hills. I also loved how unique the trees were since I had rarely seen them anywhere else.
Stairs to Heaven
As humans we all eventually die. I thought that this photo would represent the stairs leading into heaven and the afterlife.
Bridge of Opportunities
My inspiration for this picture came from the feeling of just wanting to climb up the whole bridge and seeing everything from up high. The way the lights shine at night making the whole bridge visible making it like a shining star in the sky imagining how much time and effort had to be put in to build the whole bridge. The bridge is a path to another city just the way that a bridge could be used in a mental state, like a bridge in life that leads you to a new goal or maybe new opportunities.
Piano Strings
Lots of other kids my age don't like to stay in their house. Some like to hang out with their friends, and others like to admire and soak in nature, but I like the confines of my home because I find beauty in the little details scattered in and around my home. I photographed lots of things around my house at different times and eventually settled on this photo.
The Blue Beach
I'm a senior at Berkeley High School and my computer art class was assigned a portrait project. I selected my friend Cassie and drew out a map of scenes and themes I would use in each shot. The background in this photo is Bolinas beach in Marin. I edited the portraits in Photoshop, using photo filter to make each shot have a blue tint. For highlighting I turned up the exposure to make Cassie shine in the dark forrest background. I feel success in the turn out of each one of my photos, looking at each gives a mysterious and gloomy look.
Into the Dark
I wanted to make this photo in order to contrast the darkness and light in our world.
Dazing in the Rain
This photo was taken in September of my junior year which was a time where real life and educational responsibilities had the heaviest presence since school had begun. The inspiration behind the shot was how I felt while experiencing my hardships. The rain, which was just water poured from a bottle, represented my struggles and mental battles. I wanted to express the way that I sit dazed from overthinking my issues before making an effort to solve them, even if that's a habit I’m aware I don’t enjoy. That communication was my main goal but I was definitely happy to capture falling droplets as that was a goal of mine shooting as a kid.
Left with Memory
There are many times when in the moment we never realize how impactful a single moment would have in our lives but we are left with just a single memory. This photo I took in the summer of 2023 symbolizes a time where I realized I had the power to change my reality and that I was the writer of my own story. This specific moment I took this photo was when our vacation was coming to an end and we went to see the hollywood sign before we left back home. I remember it was very sunny so it was hard to capture this photo and while in a moving car added the pressure of taking the shot at the perfect moment and turn driving up to the sign.I got the shot and was very excited. I captured the scenery and the beauty of the hollywood sign perfectly in the moment.
Dear San Francisco
This piece is a reflection on the beauty of the Bay Area and the magic of home. I've never been a "city person", but San Francisco is such a magical city that I feel a really strong connection to, having grown up in the Bay Area. The name "Dear San Francisco" is a reference to the Seven Fingers show at Club Fugazi of the same name, a performance which I saw many times and really inspired me.
Scraping the Sky
As I was walking in San Francisco I looked up and saw the massive buildings towering over me, like they were reaching into the sky.
Flea Market
This photo is of one of my best friends. I took my camera to a flea market we were going to, hoping I would be able to capture some unique and creative objects, booths, etc. In this particular picture, I wanted to guide the audiences' eyes to the subject, while also leaving lots of objects around her to look at. I used the clothing rack as a leading line, and made sure to keep the main focus on my subject father down. During the developing process, through lots of trial and error, I found the aperture and time setting that worked best for this photo; mainly focusing on making sure I had a range of color, from pure white to black.
