When I start writing a story, it’s not because I have a fully formed plan of what I want to write. I usually sit down with a basic starting point in mind, and I take it from there. All I knew when I started this particular story was that I wanted a stray cat to find a home. It seems strange, even to me, but my ideas seem to come out of thin air. I’ll take one and jump to the next, and if that doesn’t work, I backtrack and start off where it went wrong. I try not to think too much, saving that for the editing phase. Overall, my artistic process feels easy and natural, words flowing out of me quickly (if creativity decides to have mercy that day).

For me, creativity is not an attribute, but a mood. Often, I will stare at a blank page for what seems like hours before coming up with an idea, and sometimes I can write a story in a single day. Creativity is fluid, sometimes easy to capture, and sometimes elusive.
