I chose to play “What’s Going On?” by Marvin Gaye on the piano for my artwork submission for several reasons. First, I have experience playing the piano and I decided to challenge myself with a new song that I had never heard before. In addition, there are currently various wars being fought around the world. I decided to play this particular song for the Creative Youth Awards because of its relevance to today’s world. The theme of this song is that peace is the solution to differences and conflict, not war and hatred. It also depicts the suffering involved in war, and shows that it is not worth the death and destruction to resolve issues.

Creativity means going above and beyond to create something truly spectacular. One can use creativity to effectively solve technical problems, or for entertainment. I decided to not only play music, but record a piece that captures the attention of the audience as a result of its relevance to current events.
