Trickle

Sascha C.

  • “Trickle” is just that — a trickling melody, one that flows between different time signatures, styles, and instruments. The flow of the music is unrelenting, with the long, continuous lines meant to embody a stream of water. Even at its smallest and biggest, the stream is always moving, and it ultimately returns to its original form. As for the literal structure of the piece, the principal theme carried throughout the piece is the 5/8 + 6/8 mixed meter section, which most embodies the flowing, long lines that represent the meaning of the piece. The first key change serves as a transition into the 3/4 theme, which takes the continuous “stream” of eighth notes into a new, more rhythmic environment. Then, the music builds to the climax in the 12/8 section in the second half of the piece, meant to emulate the biggest point in the stream of water, which then works its way down to the corresponding smallest point in the stream. Ultimately, the last section transitions back into the main theme, marking the end of the piece and the stream returning to its initial state.

  • To me, creativity is an opportunity to fully express ourselves beyond the constraints of our daily lives.
