The Fanged Fastener - Stapler

Daniel R.

Mediums: Graphite Artwork Materials: Pencil

  • My artwork is based off of the Stapler boss battle from Paper Mario the Origami King. I used a blue paper for my artwork to make it look more appealing, and I drew my art with the graphite pencil that is commonly found in schools. I used a shading technique to represent the different colors and tones since my art piece is all in pencil gray. I wanted my art to have a lot of detail, so I took my time carefully sketching the outlines of the stapler to get the right shape. Afterward I spent more time adding the details on the inside while perfecting the outline. I then worked on perfecting the inside details and making the finalized lines of the entire drawing. Before I got into shading, I erased any guidelines or sketching lines that would get in the way of the shading process. Lastly, I shaded my artwork. I chose how I wanted the "light" to be facing in order for me to accurately convey the shadows of the stapler. I made places where less light could shine on, a darker shade, and in places where more light could shine on, a lighter shade. After doing all this, I fixed up certain things here and there to enhance my art such as adding the title on the paper and adding a shadow.

  • To me, creativity means doing something you love to do in a unique way. Each person has their own way of doing what they love. I think it also means that when you take inspiration from something, you change or add something to it that is unique to you.
