Thomas, Jolie and I originally wrote this song as part of a Berklee College of Music summer program for songwriters. Part of the challenge was, of course, making an entire cohesive song in one 48-hour sprint; as soon as we sat down I started laying out some chords, which I then played and recorded in on a MIDI instrument keyboard into Logic Pro, where Thomas was creating a layout and structure for the song. At the same time, Jolie was creating a vocal melody along with lyrics; by the end of the first day, we had largely laid out most of the song, including supplemental instrumentation other than piano. The second day was mostly spent adding the rest of the texture such as the drum line (made with samples), in addition to Thomas adding a rap-verse to serve as the bridge of the song. On the last day of the program, we put final touches on the demo mix and prepared to perform it a few hours after. Even after camp, we continued working on it without the time constraints; as soon as I heard about this opportunity to share our artwork, I notified Jolie and Thomas. We rerecorded the piano lines, this time using my own Yamaha GB1 in a new instrumental version. The instrumentation now feels grander and the mix brighter, adding to the emotional power of the song. This experience has helped us to grow as collaborators and as musicians who share great art with the world.

Creativity is what happens when I allow myself to express thoughts and feelings. My outlet for said thoughts and feelings is the piano- I've been playing music for around 13 years now, don't know what I'd do without it. The keys know more of my emotions than anyone ever will
