Spiral of The Mind

  • My inspiration for this artwork is the allure of spiraling in the thoughts of one’s mind. Whether it be in the sleeping or waking world, almost all of us have gotten lost in the depths and complexities at some point or another. For one person, it may be their anxiety and their inability to escape the voices that tell them things will go wrong or the urge to think about the source of their anxiety over and over again. For another, it may be something they’ve become obsessed with lately: it takes up all their thoughts and they get lost in fantasies and daydreams of it. If someone is asleep, they may fall into this mental spiral as well. While they are asleep, they mind will drift into dreams, which can sometimes leave the dreamer confused in the morning. This spiral of the mind can also be the intensity of their emotions. When experiencing intense emotion, many people tend to “spiral”. I do this as well. When I am very sad, I ruminate. When I am angry, I read too much into things. Even when I am too happy, I can become so euphoric I lose all sense of logic and practicality in the midst of my ecstasy. Once again, I fall into the spiral of my mind. When creating this piece, I actually was falling into a mental spiral: the spiral of inspiration.

  • To me, creativity is the most important aspect of my mind. Creativity is the toolkit of humans; the toolkit invisible to the eye but that we always have. With it, we can and have created amazing things that have made the world we live in now possible.
