Saccharine Intoxication is inspired by the opium poppy. The base of the vase is built using the soft slab construction, slip trail for the three-dimensional drips, and coil handles. I originally wanted to do a heart-shaped body, inspired by love potion bottles, though it was out of my artistic ability, so I opted to just have heart-shaped decorative handles. The glazing is done with a monochromatic color scheme using midnight blue. I applied many layers of rich blue underglaze in some areas and diluted the same glaze for other parts to create a stark contrast of values. One side of the vase depicts four poppies of varying sizes, intertwined at the stems. The flip side is a zoom in of what I to be happening imagined the flower, a bee enjoying tea and biscuits, though serene and whimsical, they are laced with poppy honey. The motif of drips is present throughout, symbolizing temptation and desperation.
