Not Allowed

"Not Allowed" is a song I created about a person I have yet to fully tell how deeply they mean to me. By no means is it only a love song, as it serves as an appreciation for their existence, as well as a confession. The title "Not Allowed" comes into play due to the nature of the relationship we carry, existing on a thin line between friends and what is more. It's seldom I find someone who grabs ahold of my life with such force, as I only thought that was possible in the constant romanticizing of movies and television shows. I used a deep sub-bass for the low end, as I think bass is as heavy and as deep as a sound can be. I matched that sub with a similar pattern pitched up an octave, to bring in a more full mid-section. Finally, for the melody, I used a reverb-drenched synth, meant to evoke feelings of illusion and bliss. I think the high amount of reverb matches with the emotional aspect I wanted to shine; there is little clarity in this relationship, pulling back and forth between what is acceptable, and what is not. The drums were inspired by artists we both love, as we connect on those same interests. The song ends with a piano section, something I don't often include in my work, but when somebody's mind seems so criminally beautiful, you can't dilute that with anything less than what is extraordinary.

Creativity is the reason I exist; music has always been something that evokes emotion stronger than all else. I plan to make a career as a professional artist, and though it's difficult as well as not guaranteed, I know my creative process and work will never cease to exist.
