Mellow Waters

My artwork's inspiration is "water". I started by painting the base colors of the character in the middle, then adding lighter or darker layers. I blended her skin and hair into the water background to symbolize looking calm on the outside but feeling like you're sinking on the inside. The objects floating around her have less detailed layers but brighter colors to emphasize both the subject and the unique world around her. The vibrant, vivid colors show how 'happy' they feel in comparison to the almost gloomy person. At the end, I added 'blockier' white highlights to give the messy and layered drawing a more controlled and 'cartoonish' aspect.
