Into the Woods

  • Earlier this year, 2023, I struggled with a lot of stress around my personal life and academics which left me feeling fatigued. I started this art piece as a way to try and process the source of my stress, trying to find ways to cope and improve on myself. I tried to do my favorite thing, hiking, but it didn't hold the same appeal as before. I used charcoal for this piece to challenge myself into a black and white piece, where I normally use a lot of color to express myself. It was meant to show the "darkness" that I felt through this period of my year, not even able to find peace in my favorite hobbies. The closer I came to end of my process, the less stressed and fatigued I felt. It was at this point, I added the beams of light into the trees, to showcase how this piece helped me "find light" and process my emotions.

  • Growing up surrounded by the arts, both visual and performing, exploring creativity means exploring myself. Music and dance helped me learn about who I am and what I connect with. Then visualizing it for other people through more of a traditional visual art creates mental comfort in my life.
