Fragile Passions

  • I was just dabbling into painting when I painted this work. I was really gung-ho about it all, and everyone else who supported me was also really passionate about art. I was inspired by their passions but as life made making art more harrowing and more difficult, they were quickly demoralized. I visualized that transition as passion still being there, but it's fragility is undeniable. I am not immune to this as well. The glass, in a way, symbolizes that fragility, but I hoped to channel that glassblower's passion for his own art through his delicacy.

  • To pick up a brush, to pick up an embroidery needle, to pick up a pencil-- creativity takes infinite forms, it has countless ways to be expressed, and it is what lets us leave our mark on humanity. To be creative is to be human.
