Eyes of the Skies

Color pencil

  • This is a color pencil drawing of my cat, Valerie. Ever since we got her in 2021, I have made a finished artwork of her every year as a way to honor her as the only non-human member of our family. I created this drawing by first taking a horizontal photo of a close-up of Valerie's face to use as my reference. I then sent the photo to my iPad, where I put a grid over it to use as guidelines for the drawing. I then copied the grid onto my drawing paper and used it to sketch and color Valerie. While coloring, I purposefully enhanced the blue color of Valerie's eyes because I wanted her eyes to pop out of the paper. This is where the artwork's name comes from, because Valerie's eyes are as clear and blue as the sky.
