Death & Destruction

Charcoal pencils on toned paper

  • I created this artwork from a still life that I arranged, using the object of a skull as the main focus. The skull in combination with the peice of driftwood creates a theme of death and brings an intense mood to the piece. I used a metalic metal pipe curved around the objects to create a flow throughout the peice around the skull and to the bottle in the top right corner, as the dark bottle contrasts the highlight and creates dimension in the peice. I used a variety of 2B, 4B, and 6B charcoal pencils along with a white charcoal pencil for highlight. I added layers to the drawing and blended it out to create smooth and three dimensional objects, carefully utilizing the highlights to make the dark objects pop out of the paper.

  • To me, creativity means expressing yourself and leaving your mark on something, and not just following the crowd and living life based off of others. In my everyday life I use my creativity as I express myself and create artwork without limits and put everything in my mind onto paper.
