Crow

Linocut stamp and ink to print

  • I challenged myself by working with negative space in a Linocut stamp. Linocuts are also exciting because there is no way to fix a mistake, and once something is done, there is no way to fix it. I had to carve slowly and carefully. I chose to create a night-time scene to print in black. I wanted to experiment with patterns, so I used multiple light sources, a candle and the moon, to add interest to the background. I tested various papers and inks before I printed a clean version. I like the way the crow blends into the background, which I accomplished using similar sized carved lines.

  • I am generally a very logical person, but when I'm making art, I can make whatever I am called to. My art is fluid, and I don't plan my pieces to let them change as I create. Creativity is a release for me.
