Climb - Symphony no. 1, "Sky," mvt. 1

The Sky symphony explores darkness and grandeur, solemness and awe. The listener follows a journey from the base of a mountain to its summit, and it is at the top where one experiences the epic infinity that is the sky. This piece, the first movement of the Sky symphony, paints a hazy, clouded picture; the piece narrates the epic exploration of an ancient mountain like that of Sisyphus. To climb is to work, to fight, to struggle, and to push against resistant forces. There is a heavy darkness that is buried, seeded in the earth and the mountains, and Climb is to be performed with such a mood and character. This piece embodies the weight of the mountains; a weight that permeates the being that is man. “May your dreams be larger than mountains and may you have the courage to scale their summits.” - Harley King

Creativity is connection. When I create art, whether it is in music, poetry, or dance, I am actively choosing to communicate something. Whether I am connecting with myself or expressing emotions and ideas to others (an audience), creativity is expressing and communicating something abstractly internal in a tangible way.
