Cinnamon Rolls, Stained, and Peace

These three poems of mine, "Cinnamon Rolls," "Stained," and "Peace" are each deeply meaningful to me, and working on them has proved to be quite a cathartic experience. Each began as something so small, just seedlings of ideas, and have now been through so many stages of revision, and have grown into works that I feel I am very proud of. In addition to my own satisfaction, I am so happy to have reached this point of being able to submit them to the Creative Youth Awards, so that they might be shared with others who have a love for poetry like I do. In an attempt to let my writing speak to you in whatever way that it pleases, I will keep my descriptions relatively brief. "Cinnamon Rolls" is about the wistful, longing sensation of missing a loved one. In "Stained", I explore the differing impacts that two people have made on the world. Lastly, my poem "Peace" outlines the spiritual journey of one who feels as though all hope is lost, but in finding a connection with God, finds peace.

Inherently, creativity begins with inspiration. It begins with a revelatory moment, when an idea hits us, and we have no choice except to write, to obsess until our thoughts are in words. To me, creativity is not that first moment of inspiration, but the compulsion to create that follows it.
