chalk up

  • My passion for climbing essentially saved my life. Both my physical and emotional wellbeing rely on the practice of rock climbing. The hands here are those of a strong and kind friend who has guided me and allowed me to act as a guide in return. Nothing has helped me learn more than having the opportunity to observe and teach others. I'd rather have chalk in my lungs than oxygen, and so would my friend. Photographing climbing sessions has been a privilege and immense blessing - my intentions is continue photographing climbers at every opportunity that presents itself to me. I love looking back at the intricacy of this shot - each vein, muscle and tendon that helps one climb, each molecule of chalk that allows that much more grip; a collection of very small parts that construct into something meaningful and joyful.

  • Creativity is the flowing out of perspective into an otherwise open space. Creativity is the pressure we put on ourselves to challenge our artistic nature, leaving the door open for introspective ponderings in the form of something tangible, audible, or visible.
