This artwork is inspired by the cubism movement of the 1920s. It's based on a corner of my room, which has a hanging wall clock shaped like a cat, a mirror, and a hanging pothos plant. The painting includes these elements, with several views of the clock, including a depiction of the inner workings of its moving eyes. The pattern behind the subjects at the bottom of the work invokes Art Deco, another early 20th-century art movement. This work reflects my interest in art history through the different historical styles it combines and is inspired by. I chose to include the leaves because of the way the bright green contrasted with the purples and grays. They are painted with acrylic mixed with modeling paste to give them a 3D texture as well as a matte finish. I wanted the majority of the work to be glossy to reflect the smooth plastic of the clock and the shine of the mirror, but the leaves to be matte to emphasize the difference between the elements of the piece. The top right corner is painted over a newspaper with games and puzzles partially visible. The top left corner shows a close-up of the hands of the clock with black impact marks indicating the sound of the clock ticking. A theme of this artwork is depicting parts of life that aren’t usually imagined visually, such as sound, the passage of time, and multiple views of the same object.

Creativity means making something new and interesting that has never been seen before. I adore making artwork that combines different historical art styles and my own ideas because it helps me to make work that is unique to me and reflects who I am as an artist.
