“Bubbles” is a mixed-media piece created to explore the intricacies of memory, girlhood, and nostalgia. The oversaturated colors and haphazard paint strokes are an ode to the wonder and carelessness of a kid’s world-view, brought to life by incorporating 3-D elements with heavy sentimental meaning; beads taken from my old kid-jewelry, pieces of fabric from clothes I wore when I was younger, and wooden supports in the shape of toy building-blocks. The design itself is painted to resemble a “turning” motion, depicting the fleeting nature of childhood and the constant movement that comes with ‘growing up.’ Bubbles themselves are a perfectly bittersweet nod to “change,” floating slowly, merrily away from an un-noticing kid.

Creativity to me is synonymous with expression- it allows me to make sense of my feelings, show my love for those that surround me, connect with myself, and explore the intricacies of my memory, such as in this piece. Creativity is freeing, letting me imagine beyond what is already there.
