Bonfire

Ailon G.

  • This piece is structured in roughly four sections: 1. The blazing bonfire 2. The bonfire dies away 3. The embers of the fire glow 4. The bonfire roars back to life The entire piece is based on a half-step motif, which is especially pronounced in the voice leading between chords. This, combined with a strong rhythmic pulse, embodies the simultaneously beautiful and powerful nature of a bonfire. I composed Bonfire for the Interlochen Philharmonic and made sure to keep the specific strengths of the ensemble in mind when writing the piece. It shows the every-changing yet unyielding nature of flame - and the many different cultural connotations that come with that.

  • Creativity is an outlet that I use to transform my ideas into real, tangible pieces of music that I can play with friends. There is something meaningful about the artistic process that is deeply fulfilling as an expression of self and enjoyable as a hobby in its own right.
