Dance is a language, a way of communication, and a medium for storytelling. I wanted to tell a story that wasn’t verbally told or written on paper but was amplified through movement. This story behind my dancing consists of clips of an interview with my mom about her legacy growing up as an immigrant from Cambodia in America, “The Land of Opportunity.” Her story is a shared experience of struggle and hard work. Her story is also the reason I find freedom and progressiveness in expressing those struggles through art. Experiences that my mom went through shouldn’t go untold or restricted in how we share those experiences, but amplified in creative strength.

Creativity is my freedom. There is no restraint, only subjectivity and inspiration that develops from my mind. Creativity is what allows me to approach everything I do in life in different ways, while staying true to my desires. It's taking paper, fabric, words, systems apart and creating something interesting.
