Under the Horizon

The ideas involved in this piece's creation started at the beginning of this school year, as I entered high school. As one of my electives, I chose to take part in my schools chamber music and orchestra program. Before this, I had very little experience in creating music in a group, focusing mainly on soloist classical piano. However, this new experience was an eye-opening experience. As well as this new undertaking, I had begun to look towards a more creative path and use of my classical piano background through composition. As I learned more compositional techniques, I began to work towards a piano soloist piece that could involve the emotion and movement, the story that I value the most in music I love. But, once I finished the piece, I found it still lacking. As I had been involved in the orchestra and my chamber group for some time now, I had begun to appreciate and value performing with other musicians more and more. So, as my chamber group consisted of a pianist, a violinist, and a clarinetist, I decided that I would attempt to incorporate the emotion and story of my original composition into a weaving of three instruments. And, at my schools chamber music and art showcase, I was given the opportunity to practice and perform this with my group, which was incredibly vital to the final adaptation, Under the Horizon.
