Train Conversation

Taylor K.

  • This short story, titled "Train Conversation", depicts several individuals during an ordinary time in their lives. For a few brief minutes while riding in the same subway car, they find connection with each other, brightening all of their days. In a large city, where every resident is relatively insignificant and anonymous, it's these small moments of interaction with other human beings that give warmth and meaning to peoples' lives. It was important to depict these moments as they so often are in reality: ephemeral and evanescent, but bringing a disproportionate amount of hope and meaning.

  • Writing fiction adds another dimension to my view of the world. It is a lens through which I observe the world around me, and it improves my ability to take the long view of events and understand other individuals more deeply.
