Too Fast

Too Fast reflects how I feel as a young teenager struggling to balance academic and social pressure, and as a student living in the heart of Silicon Valley. Every day, the world around me seems to be moving fast, almost too fast. Television channels discussing a new COVID-19 variant, news articles describing the latest tech startup, classmates talking about the math test tomorrow—everything around me spins and spins as it becomes increasingly harder to stay focused and upright.
When I realized it was time to express how I felt, I had only three goals in mind for the photograph: 1) towering buildings to symbolize growing pressure and the intimidation of Silicon Valley, 2) a blur to illustrate how hazy life has become to me, and 3) a clear sky to show others like me that there is hope and it is possible to stay grounded. Too Fast is my final product.

Creativity allows me to explore who I am and it pushes me to learn to love myself. It allows me to express my thoughts, emotions, and self. Creativity gives me a voice—one that is truly my own—and in a world full of darkness, with just one click, it allows me to flash a bright, warm light.
