The song excerpt I am performing is The View From Here from the musical Darling, written and composed by Ryan Scott Oliver. Darling is a new contemporary musical based on the classic story, Peter Pan, set in 1929 Boston, during The Great Depression. It follows sixteen-year-old Ursula as she flees from her mother’s expectations of an upper-class lady and into the seedy underground world, following a rent-boy named Peter. In the song, Ursula is expressing her feelings of longing and excitement for “normal” teenage life and fear for the unknown in Boston. This song resonates with me as I understand having mixed feelings of excitement, fear and anticipation.
