The Golden Egg

Erinn H.

  • This is a photograph of a friend with sister and I as children feeding a goose bound at the feet, taken in a small village in Jiangxi, China. My grandmother watches us from the side.

Childhood innocence as the golden egg from Aesop’s fable. As children grow up, is it part of the natural human experience to have innocence abruptly taken away? Are naivety and innocence synonymous? What is it about innocence that we value so much?

  • I am given unique perspectives on our human experiences and the way I observe and take in the world around me. Because creativity is founded by inspiration, my own mind has been trained to notice details, finding meaning and possibility in the mundane, the strange, the abstract, and the surreal.
