Stormboat Freedom

For my composition, I picked the name "Stormboat Freedom" to represent a boat lost in a storm and then escaping to calm waters - free. I composed both a piano and violin part to represent two different voices.
In the beginning, I brainstormed a new chord progression, or underlying theme, for my composition. I eventually chose this theme because I believe it represents sorrow, hopefulness, and relief, the three components I wanted this piece to include. When listening to classical music or pop music on the radio, I noticed that minor and sad songs included darker lower tones such as Lewis Capaldi’s Someone You Loved, while more joyful pieces, such as Beethoven's Für Elise, demonstrate higher tones with medium-ranged bass notes.

Through music and art, I capture moments, engage objects, and bring attention to what others may often see as mundane. By exploring photography, film, and composition, I can highlight my own perspective on life and find a unique way to communicate with the world.
